5. History
The sculptor Diego Cano, born in the town of Olula del Río in Almería, received the Master Craftsman Letter from the Andalusian Government in 2013. At the beginning of his artistic career he dedicated himself to painting. He did so until 1985, when, by chance, he met the Anglo-Russian sculptor Alexander Sokolov. the latter arrived in Macael and became Diego’s teacher. Since then, Diego has not stopped sculpting, revealing the identity of the stone with his chisel. At first, he sculpted human figures, but then he became interested in surrealism. His works, inspired by everyday themes such as dialogue and friendship, have been exhibited throughout Spain.
